This one is for my Mom, who thinks I am nuts for combining 2 different fabrics to make a shower curtain, AND suspending the whole thing from the ceiling.  Phewww!  That was a mouthful!!

Well, we all know that I am nuts, and I did exactly that and I LOVE IT!

PT on the other hand …..  not so much.  Hoping that it grows on him a little, but if not…… he can just deal!  😉

Remember our shower debacle, and the suggestion that was given to me by our tile guy?   So glad I listened!!

Have I told you that I love it??   LOL!   I really do….

What makes it even better is that it was {No Sew}.  If I can get away with it I will not bring out the sewing machine.  There is something about that needle going into the fabric and then getting all tangled with the bobbin below that sends me over the edge!  I seem to spend more time getting everything unraveled  than I do actually sewing.

Which is the main reason I chose to use a fusible web (ie: Stitch Witchery and Wonder-Under) to adhere the fabric together.   I have not had much faith in fusible web, as in the past, it didn’t work the greatest for me. =(

May have been user error, I will totally own it!  This time around I actually read the directions and followed them to a “T”.  Worked like a charm!!

This project was on actually on hold for a few months.  I had this vision in my head, and when I couldn’t find the fabric that I was looking for, I went into a small depression.    Stupid, I know…..  but I have 2 pillows on my bed and I love the red and blue tones in them.  I had thrown a scrap piece of burlap on top of them and it was PERFECT!

Problem #1, we didn’t buy any excess fabric when the pillows were made.  Nada, none!  How does that happen?  Usually, I end up with too much excess!!

I couldn’t find it anywhere.  I thought we had bought it at JoAnne’s, but after picking apart 3 of the stores with a fine tooth comb I couldn’t find the fabric anywhere. 

I decided that I would go with an off white material and add in another of our pillow fabrics (black and white, which we have tons of fabric left over).  Problem #2, I couldn’t muster any enthusiasm for this material combination and none of the premade shower curtains floated my boat.  End result —–> Project stalled!

I happened to be whining to a co-worker, and she recommended that I turn the pillow inside out to see if the manufacture’s name was still visible on a seam.  JACKPOT!!!

A quick search online, and I found the fabric at 2 different fabric stores.  One of them actually being JoAnne’s, and it just happened to be 50% off!!  Plus, I was able to use a coupon for an additional 20% off.  I did have to pay S&H, but I didn’t care, because I was in a constant state of ‘happy dance’ that I would finally get to see my vision in the bathroom.

If I am being honest….I would also say that I was keeping my fingers crossed that it would look good, as my Mom was still trying to get me to buy a shower door.  Sorry Mom!

As soon as I placed the fabric order (I only bought 1 yard, as I was just going to use it for the bottom 1/4 of the curtain), I ran to Hobby Lobby to purchase 10 yards of burlap.  

Lord, I cannot even describe how excited I was to start on this shower curtain.   I spread out the burlap on our dining room floor, left to get some scissors to cut it in 1/2, and came back to Rudy leaving me a present……

OMG……he peed on it!  I was so mad! Thank God he does not understand curse words!

I tried to blot it up ….  totally gave up and threw the entire 10 yards in the washing machine and added a little detergent.  MISTAKE!!!  I wanted to cry when I pulled it out and the color had been pulled out in areas.  I thought about it for about 2 seconds and decided to dye the burlap using tea bags.  If you don’t remember me doing this to make a burlap cork board, you can get caught up over here.  An hour later, the burlap was in the dryer and I was back in business.  **Hindsight is always 20/20, but I think I could have just cut off that section and still had enough fabric to work with**

Now the best part started….. ironing!  NOT! 

I think I detest ironing more than I dislike sewing.  Just saying!  Not only did the burlap come out a rumpled and tangled mess from the dryer, but I was creating/adhering the seams with fusible web and an iron.  Let me tell you a secret.  I have been known to go buy another shirt for work just so I didn’t have to iron!  Shhhhh, don’t tell PT!

Anyway, the burlap was 45″ wide so I figured that I would put 2 pieces of burlap together to get the full width I would need to cover the 6 ft shower opening.  The ceiling’s are 8 ft tall, the shower rod is about 5″ from the ceiling and I wanted to have the red fabric on the bottom 18″.  Follow all of that?  Add in about an inch for all the fusible seams and we are good to go.

I saw a great trick at Hobby Lobby to cut a straight line on the burlap.  Take a pin and gently pull out one of the lines of the burlap.

When the entire string is out, you will have a perfect edge to cut your straight line…..

I didn’t have to look very hard before falling in love with this beaded burlap trim …. truly lucked out!  It is the perfect little something something to hide the section where the red fabric and burlap meet up.

What do you think?  Is PT right….. is it hiding the gorgeous tile?  Or do you agree with me, and it adds color and texture, and it is a great solution until we can get a frame less door?
