Very Berry Smoothie

Remember when I first introduced you to Matcha Powder just about 2 years ago?  I spoke a little bit about it, and gave you a personal smoothie favorite of mine!

Remember??  I also promised you I would go a little more in depth on the health benefits, and I failed to do that. =(

Health benefits of matcha powder

Sorry!

Well……I am going to make it up to you today.  I found another amazing matcha powder company, and this one has the added benefit of coming in individual packets {YEP, you can carry a few in your purse and add them to “any food product” when you are out and about}.  I was asked to review Matcha DNA’s product right before we left for vacation, and it was waiting for me when we arrived home…..exhausted, tired and crabby I might add!  Our Bradford Pear splitting in 2 from a wind storm might have something to do with the crabby….not our vacation ….. which was WONDERFUL!

Blah, blah, blah….I know you see where I am going with this!

Individual packets = LOVE!

I thought matcha powder was a trend and would fade away, but I see it everywhere now!  People are drinking it straight up, making ice cream and smoothies with it (me, me me), and even adding it into baked goods.

Personally, I can’t hang with drinking it straight up.  Maybe if I added a bunch of honey or stevia I could swallow it, but the whole point of adding matcha powder into my lifestyle was to help rid myself of sugar…not add to it.  😉 I have even tried adding it to my greek yogurt (yuck), and to my oatmeal (more yuck), but have found that adding it to smoothies is definitely the way to go.

At least for me!!!!

If you remember from that original post, my smoothie of choice had peaches and/or mangoes, spinach, banana and some liquid such as Almond or Coconut Milk.  If you want that recipe you can get it HERE.  This past weekend, I played around with another combination, and came up with this Very Berry Smoothie.

Strawberry Blueberry Match Powder smoothieBefore I give you the recipe…..using just one packet of Matcha DNA, of course……let me give you a quick rundown of the benefits of adding this antioxidant powerhouse to your lifestyle.

Matcha DNA review

According to my research, matcha powder boasts that it is a cancer fighter, has anti-aging properties, boosts energy, and revs up the metabolism.  Let me be honest and say that they had me at cancer fighter.  I have tried to incorporate additional antioxidants and cancer fighting foods into my diet since 2009. I am not always perfect, and certainly have my ‘benders’, but I keep trying……..

Matcha powder is green tea on steroids!!  One cup of matcha green tea’s nutritional content is equivalent to 10 glasses of regular green tea!  Like I said…..it is on steroids!!!  Seriously….. it is such a beautiful shade of green!!!

Matcha Powder

These are just a few of Matcha Powders health benefits…….

  • Antioxidant Powerhouse:  Isn’t this the popular buzzword these days?  We want to pack our bodies with these magical nutrients and enzymes responsible for fighting against the negative effects our world is surrounding us with. Matcha Powder has more than pomegrantes, spinach, and even blueberries.
  • Loaded with Catechin (EGCg): The only thing I understand about Catechins and EGCg is that they scavenge for dangerous free radicals in our body…..and is believed to be a powerful anti-carcinogen!
  • Enhances Calm:  Uhmmm…..need I say more?  Don’t we all crave calm in our lives?  The amino acid L-Theanine, found in the leaves, promotes the production of alpha waves in our brains……which induces relaxation.  😉
  • Increases Energy Levels:  I can 100% verify this statement….it truly does boost my energy levels, and I don’t feel that 4 pm drag when I add it to my breakfast routine.
  • Detoxes the Body and Burns Calories:  I can’t vouch for these 2 claims, but if they are true it is a win-win!!

Do you drink Matcha Powder?  Love it or hate it?

Disclaimer:  Although I was given some packets of matcha DNA to review, the comments and statements above are 100% me.  I love how matcha powder makes me feel, and I absolutely love the fact that matcha DNA comes in individual packets, and it is priced at a reasonable $19.71 for 3 oz over at Amazon.

I received one or more of the products mentioned above for free using Tomoson.com. Regardless, I only recommend products or services I use personally and believe will be good for my readers.

  1. I add Matcha to my smoothies as well. I tried drinking it straight first thing in the morning but have discovered that it makes me feel sick, even the top grade stuff does. I think putting that high concentration of ground tea leaves does a number on the stomach lining or something. I am fine if I drink it with food but I would rather have coffee or good ole English style tea for that! Anyway, I have discovered that plopping it into my daily smoothie is perfect! Sometimes I have two or three a day and figure I am getting plenty of antioxidants now!

    • I am with you, and can only use Matcha powder in my smoothies. I am impressed with your 2-3 a day, as I seem to only get it in the morning!!
